Let it rain!

Although in Spain we have more sunny days than rainy ones, I found the need to get a raincoat for my little girl. So I decided to make one (why buy it when you could make it? ).

I didn't use any pattern, after making the pajamas I though nothing could do it. I just put her coat over a paper and more less draw the pattern.

I bought the laminated fabric (110 x 90cm) and I already had at home the minky fabric, which I though it was perfect to make it warm raincoat.

And this is the outcome, the only problem is that since I finished it, it didn't rain.... ;-)

She loved it!

Mary Paint All Over My Bedroom

I wasn't happy at all with my bedroom, it was too dark. During quite a long time I was thinking how to change it. The first thing I wanted to get rid of was the black. The headboard had a black leatherette.

After some research I decided to paint it with Mary Paint. This paint doesn't need wax or varnish.

And this is the result:

I painted with the same paint the leatherette, the lamps and the picture frames.

And the Ikea Hemnes shoe cabinet:

This paint does not leave the brush strokes!

Giving Ikea Furniture a New Look with Chalk Paint Autentico

After using Fleur Paint for my baby girl furniture, I decided to paint the Ikea Hemnes Nightstand. It was a black-Brown table that we used in the living room next to the sofa. We had just changed most of the living room furniture from dark brown to white and some kind of grey...  So that table needed to be painted.

I decided to try Autentico chalk paint, because they will send me by mail six paint samples. So I asked for my samples and then I made my online order.

The paint I used for this Ikea table was Elephant Grey on the top and Antique White and finnished it up with a dark wax.

Here a close view:

It was great working with this chalk paint, after this we (my four year old boy and I) used it to paint several frames.

Repurpose Ikea Furniture with Fleur Chalk Paint

While expecting my baby girl, I needed to prepare her room. Like we had just move to a new appartment, from the previous one I had an extra Ikea Molger Shelving Unit that I no longer wanted. At the time, I was watching a tv show in which they painted almost anything with chalk paint. So I decided to give it a try and repurpose it with some chalk paint.

I bought Fleur Pretty Ballerina and finish it with it mat varnish.

I also decided  to paint  the Ikea Sniglar Changing Table.

I really enjoyed painting these two pieces of furniture, it was quite easy to do. The only thing I found most difficult was applying the varnish. For some reason, while applying the varnish with a Fleur brush, the layers of paint moved a bit. It's not something easy to see in the final result, but I know it's there. Here is a close view:

This is my first project with chalk paint and not my last ;-)

Zafu

When being with kids, we end up sitting on the floor. Sometimes to read them a book, sometimes to play.  During one of those times, I thought, I need a cushion to seat on... This, together with the fact that my son tends to sit a lot in "W position" (not recommended), made me think of buying a zafu. But of course, why buy it when you can make it.

So I bought some upholstery fabric from the sale section and I made three zafus filled with spelt husks (hulls).

I made them with  a carrying handle.

They have a zippered removable cover to allow easy cleaning. After all, they are going to be all over the floor.

Up to now, my kids are using them every day. To read, to play with dolls, to watch the theater, as a circuit to jump from one zafu to the next one....

Now, I need to start using them to meditate ;-)

Quick Cute Ghost

My little girl's nursery teacher told us that for Halloween she needed to be dressed as a ghost.

I couldn't resist to make a cute ghost costume, with headdress included.

Very very easy to do, all you need is:
  1. White shirt
  2. Black fabric paint (to paint the face of the ghost)
  3. White tights
  4. Elastic por the tutu waist
  5. Tul roll.
  6. White hair-band
  7. Felt (pink, white and black)

DIY Hulk Costume

My son has been putting some pressure on me, he really wanted a Hulk Costume. And yes, it was my fault, I told him "we don't need to buy it, we can make it".
Finally here it is:

To do the body I followed imfeelincrafty instructions. I bought the pijama pattern from peek-a-boo . And I made a very small variation. Instead of stuffing the muscles before attaching them to the body (the pijama). I only cutted one piece of fabric for the muscles and sticked it to the body, leaving a hole for stuffing. So, I used a bit less of fabric.

Also I added the fist. For my son the fist was absolutely neccesary. And the fist had a very important requirement, he needed to be able to use his hand. So I thought about making fingerless gloves and adding the fist over them.

I din't know it was so easy to make a pijama, for Christmas I'm planning on making more.
